Detroit Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde pushes back against…

Coach Derek Lalonde of the Detroit Red Wings disputes a “misleading” statistic following his team’s 5-3 loss. Gary A. Vasquez of USA Today Sports is the photographer.

Derek Lalonde, head coach of the Detroit Red Wings, responds to a statistic that he believes is misleading.

The Detroit Red Wings had a dismal end to the month of December with a 5-3 loss to their division rivals, the Boston Bruins, at Little Caesars Arena.

The Red Wings’ record in games where they scored three goals or fewer this season is now 0-17-1 as a result of their continued inability to win. Derek Lalonde, the head coach, believes that this figure is “misleading.”

Lalonde talked about the unsettling pattern that his squad was experiencing, which was the lack of wins by 3-2 or 2-1 scores. He said that this figure doesn’t give the whole picture or the whole context of the team’s performance.

After the game, Lalonde remarked, “That’s a deceiving number because we have two shutouts and we’ve given one, two, or three goals in a lot of those four-goal games.” Naturally, Lalonde stated, “Our defense needs to get better.” And it did, against Boston. Just insufficient to earn two points.

Lalonde continued by saying that, despite the disappointing outcome, he thought his team’s performance today was possibly their most comprehensive from beginning to end of the season.

Lalonde remarked, “Probably our most comprehensive 60 minutes from beginning to end in a while.” “We faced a team that had a very narrow margin of error to win. It’s a little underwhelming. They really just had one opportunity in the third, which I believe was a face-off assignment that was missed and went in the back of the net.

In summary, Detroit needs to start scoring points. The plain truth is that Lalonde’s club hasn’t won a single hockey game this season in which they haven’t scored at least four goals, regardless of how he feels about the statistic.

Although Detroit’s attack has improved this season, its goaltending and defense need to get better if they are to have a genuine chance to make the playoffs.

The Red Wings are currently getting ready for a three-game road trip that will begin at SAP Center on Tuesday night against the San Jose Sharks. The game begins at 10:30 p.m. EST on Bally Sports Detroit and 97.1 The ticket will have radio coverage.
