The 42-year-old Aston Martin driver said he needed to be completely committed and driven before thinking about returning to the grid for another season in an interview with Sky Sports F1 in Saudi Arabia.
“If I am here it’s because I want to do well and first of all I need to speak with myself in order to commit,” Alonso stated to Motorsport.com. “I like to race. I adore motorsports. Whether I am battling for a victory, a podium, or P12 makes no difference. I give a race and a team my whole attention.”
The two-time world champion stressed his competitive ambition to perform at the greatest level for whichever team he drives for, acknowledging that he cannot just stay in Formula One for fun.
“I have to make sure I can give that team my all before I commit to anything in the future. Otherwise, it would be excessively self-serving to simply join up and race in Formula One for enjoyment.”
Naturally, the driver must consider personal concerns, particularly given the record-breaking duration of the season and the rigorous travel schedule.
“How I feel, how I go through the first run of trips, planes, time zones differences, physically how I feel, how motivated is the main thing for me,” he stated.
Although rumors have connected him to positions at Mercedes and, as of late, Red Bull, the Spaniard is only concerned with choosing which organization to pursue after making the best personal choice.
“I must first personally promise myself that I would dedicate a few more years of my life to this. Once I make the decision with myself, I look for the greatest option available and decide if I am willing to sacrifice other things in life once more.
