Former Birmingham City, West Brom, Watford, Leeds United and Bolton star make a comeback at 44
It’s been over five years since the former Blues and Baggies defender graced a pitch, but he returned last weekend.
Former Birmingham City and West Brom defender Paul Robinson has returned to the football pitch at the age of 44.
Robinson had a 22-year playing career that saw him make more than 650 appearances in professional football, featuring for the likes of the Blues, Watford, West Brom, Bolton Wanderers, and Leeds United.
He enjoyed successes such as winning promotion to the Premier League with both the Hornets and the Baggies
His last appearance came in May 2018, when he came on as a substitute in a 3-1 win over Fulham at the end of the 2017/18 campaign. For the first time in over five years, however, he has donned the boots again.
Robinson made his Birmingham & District League debut on Saturday for Claverdon, as originally published by sister publication Express & Star
. On his debut, he played alongside his son, and they triumphed over Diamonds Academy.
Now, he’ll play every other weekend, unless his new team needs him for every game. In response to questions about his comeback to the field, he stated on the Baggies Broadcast:
It was really fantastic, and my body can handle it because it is not at the levels I used to play at.
It’ll be every other week unless they keep dragging me in, but I enjoyed it, and it is an opportunity to play with one of my sons.
I’d like to do the same with all of them, it was a great lifetime experience and a great joy to grace the same pitch.
The move came about after Robinson mutually agreed to leave his post as first-team coach at Millwall.
Robinson worked under Gary Rowett, however following his departure and the appointment of Joe Edwards, he moved on from The Den.
Robinson, who worked as assistant coach to the under-23’s and then as head-coach at St Andrew’s also spoke of his desire to get iinto to football management.
