Coach Dan Campbell has finally emerged the CEO position.

Here is the opening statement from new Detroit Lions CEO Dan Campbell during his introductory news conference on Thursday in Allen Park (provided by the team):

Hello to all of you. I can’t believe how happy I am to be here. I have to make sure I control myself, so there might be a few moments where I’m not visible at all on screen because I’m moving. I’ll try my hardest. But let me start by saying this: one of the things I told my agent, Rick Smith, in relation to the head coach search and how I got here, was to “make sure that they think I’m Matt Campbell.” Thus, I believe that’s why this has been so successful for me. I am Dan Campbell now that I am seated. However, I am certain of this: a Campbell is always a good choice.I must thank a great many individuals here first, listen. It’s unbelievable how happy I am to be here. I’m thrilled. This is one of the occupations I mentioned earlier. I instructed my agent to do whatever it takes to get me in front of Rod Wood, President & CEO, and Sheila Hamp, Principal Owner and Chairman of Ford Hamp. I know this city because I played here when this became available. I understand the main idea. I am familiar with the individuals. It’s a unique location and a unique community. In a moment, I will go into further detail about that. Alright, I have a lot of people to thank. First and foremost, Holly, my spouse. We have been wed for more than 20 years. Man, she has been my rock. She has moved in with me and says it like it is, sometimes not in a pleasant way but nonetheless, she will tell me exactly what she thinks, and that is a good thing. My two children, Piper, my daughter, and Cody, my son, have moved and adjusted, and they have been my greatest supporters. I must thank them initially… Forever grateful, I am to him. Look, there are a lot of folks that I will miss, but I want to make sure that I give them some special attention. Finally, but most importantly, when you bring up the New Orleans family I recently left, you should know that I owe everything to all the guys I had on this offensive staff because we all worked hard and together. The one who pulled the fortunate straw was me. ‘RC’ (Ronald Curry), our receivers coach, D.J. Williams (offensive assistant), who works with quarterbacks, Declan Doyle (offensive assistant), who was kind of under me—so all these guys, man—Brendan Nugent, O-line—we put in the work. Dan Roushar, our O-line coach; Joel Thomas, our running backs coach; Pete Carmichael, the OC (offensive coordinator); You highlight a cohesive team, not just our offensive players, and the defensive staff as well. You also note a great working atmosphere. That is what I hope to do here. There are just a few guys who want to grow together, but they also want to improve themselves and learn more about the game. As they say, a man’s weakness is another man’s strength. We are able to cover for one another.
