Jean-Philippe Gbamin was reportedly interested in joining with Liverpool in 2019 before he chose to join Everton.
Before Liverpool decided to pursue Fabinho, Jurgen Klopp was anxious to bring the then-Mainz star to Anfield, according to the player’s agent, Bernard Collignon.
As far as we know, Gbamin decided to sign a £25 million agreement to join Everton, but the move swiftly turned into a nightmare for the former midfielder for the Bundesliga.
Gbamin was injured for the better part of two seasons, and the Covid-19 epidemic was a major factor in the Ivorian’s unsuccessful Everton career.
If the midfield player had turned down Everton, things might have turned out differently, according to Collignon, who stated: “Jurgen Klopp, who managed Mainz, had wanted JP before signing Fabinho.”
However, we decided on Everton because it’s extremely tough to succeed at a major English team if you start out there.
Had Gbamin joined Liverpool, his career may have taken a different turn.
One of the many “what ifs” in football is Gbamin choosing to join Liverpool in 2019 rather than Everton.
Since deciding to play for the blue side of Merseyside rather than the red, the midfielder’s career has changed drastically, and it’s reasonable to assume that Gbamin wouldn’t be in his current position.
It’s odd to think about Liverpool during their Premier League glory without Fabinho, but if Klopp had been able to sign him in 2019, Gbamin may have been successful at Anfield.
