HOME COMIMG: DETROIT LIONS RE-SIGN STARTING RIGHT GUARD IN Graham Glasgow to a 3-year deal.
Graham Glasgow, the starting right guard for the Detroit Lions, is returning to the team on a big three-year contract.
The Detroit Lions have used free agency to make their first (internal) splash. The Lions are reportedly close to signing Graham Glasgow to a $20 million, three-year contract, per a report from Adam Schefter.
The decision is hardly shocking. When Glasgow returned to Detroit last season, he was outstanding, and both teams wanted to run it back. Glasgow put in a lot of effort at the right guard position despite being signed mostly as depth, but when Halapoulivaati Vaitai sustained a season-ending back injury, the seasoned guard filled in and played well. Graham finished with a 74.9, which put him sixth out of all NFL guards, according to PFF.
Glasgow offers the Lions confidence at center in addition to providing them with a starter at right guard. In an emergency, Glasgow provides a wealth of expertise at the center position, especially with Frank Ragnow persistently fighting through injury.
Glasgow has since re-signed, so attention is now on starting left guard Jonah Jackson, who will soon be a free agent. Given that Jackson is predicted to command a contract that exceeds $16 million annually, Detroit will have to make a much harder decision when selecting him.
For the time being, though, the Lions will have at least four of their five starting offensive linemen back in 2024, which is significant given how potent and crucial that unit was in the previous campaign.
