The brilliant Browns defensive coordinator  standout Myles Garrett is fired

With 74.5 sacks in his six-year NFL career, Garrett has already established himself as one of the league’s finest edge rushers. Under Brown’s constantly-evolving defensive systems, Garrett has also received four Pro Bowl awards, two NFL first-team All-Pro selections, and two second-team All-Pro selections. Garrett has had four defensive coordinators since joining the organization in 2017: Schwartz, Joe Woods, Steve Wilks, and Gregg Williams.

The Browns think Schwartz can take the defense to new heights by granting the players greater autonomy and responsibility. General Manager of the Browns Andrew Berry thinks that Garrett and Schwartz will be a match made in heaven.

Berry stated, “He pulls the seatbelt off those men, as he always says.” That fits Myles perfectly. The goal is to create negative plays, forced errors, and turnovers. It begins with the defensive line wrecking havoc with a premium on pass rush skills.

Over his final two seasons, Garrett totaled 16 sacks. Even though he has contributed significantly to the Browns’ defense, he has not yet been named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Most recently, Schwartz led the Detroit Lions as their head coach from 2009 until 2013. During his tenure, he finished with a 290-51 record and guided the team to the 2011 postseason.

The Browns think that Garrett and other players can perform to their full potential under Schwartz’s defensive knowledge and experience. As defensive coordinator, Schwartz was instrumental in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2018 Super Bowl victory.

Garrett Myles Following a play, 95 Cleveland Browns players react.

He was the Tennessee Titans’ coordinator from 2001 to 2008; during the previous two years, he had been their defensive assistant. Prior to that, from 1993 to 1995, he was employed by the Browns as a scout, working under head coach Bill Belichick.

Because he understands how to bring out the best in his players and will tailor the scheme to play to their strengths, Jim has witnessed defensive success at every coaching position.

Jim is an enthusiastic leader who thinks that basic education is important. His extensive experience will help our staff handle the demands of effectively defending the various attacks in the AFC North and throughout the National Football League, and we are delighted about that.

On Friday, August 4, the Browns are scheduled to meet the New York Jets in their inaugural preseason game.
