NBA All-Star Basketball Player Retires
Marc Gasol, a former player for the Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors, has retired.
The NBA champion Marc Gasol announced his retirement from basketball on Wednesday. During his thirteen years in the NBA, Gasol won one NBA championship with the Toronto Raptors and was a member of three All-Star teams while playing for the Memphis Grizzlies. In 2021, Gasol made his NBA debut with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Grizzlies have announced that they will retire Gasol’s No. 33 jersey, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Gasol made three All-Star teams, two All-NBA teams, and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 during his eleven seasons with the Grizzlies. Even though Gasol’s departure from Memphis was bittersweet, it helped Toronto win its first NBA title in 2019 and made him a key player in the victory.
Gasol, one of the most reliable players of the 2010s, served as the cornerstone of several excellent Grizzles teams. The Grizzlies’ fan base adores the grit and grind era of the franchise, and even basketball fans outside of Memphis have some admiration for those squads.
Gasol leaves basketball with a huge legacy, having had a big influence on two separate teams and having accomplished a lot in his NBA career. Forever an All-Star, Gasol helped shape a certain era of Grizzles basketball in Memphis. He helped the Raptors win their first championship, so he will always be remembered in Toronto as an NBA champion.
