As he takes over as coach of the Newcastle Falcons, Alex Codling wants to turn Kingston Park into a stronghold.
Falcons’ awful Premiership start has seen them lose each of their first 12 games, leaving them 18 points down at the bottom of the standings.
Due to the team’s performance, head coach Alex Codling stepped down from his daily responsibilities. Diamond has taken over as manager following Micky Ward’s interim tenure as manager against Perpignan and Northampton.
Although the 54-year-old has acknowledged that there isn’t much he can do to keep the team out of the relegation play-offs at the end of the season, he has made enhancing the team’s home performance his top objective.
When asked about the Falcons’ standing in the league, he told ITV Tyne Tees, If I’m being completely honest, there’s not much I can do. Whether or not I can make the squad competitive is what matters to me. That’s probably not going to happen, as we would need to win four or five games to move up from the bottom.
However, that is probably further down the line if you look at the medium-term goal of reorganizing the team and management group and winning the following season.
achieving uniformity in the methodology of our work.
Newcastle used to have a reputation for winning most of their games up here, but that seems to have vanished. Thus, being good at home starts with that.
As the Premiership pauses for the Six Nations, Diamond will have eight weeks to work with his new charges prior to their next match, and he plans to make the most of that time.
At present, the opportunity remains unexplored, he stated. We have decided to implement a plan that should lead to some improvement in performance.
“We have an abundance of time to make amends. I have eight weeks to thoroughly assess who desires to be present and who does not.
Diamond has high goals in mind, hoping to get the Falcons back into Europe after he has managed to address the team’s dismal performance. He intends to do that by making use of the youth setups around the north to assemble a team that can finish in the top six.
He clarified, We want to develop the team around the enormous number of students that come through these channels. A young northern side needs four or five seasoned players to come in from overseas, but we cannot overspend.
My proficiency in that area contributes to my street reputation and helps me land jobs like these.
Anyone out there would probably agree with me when I say that entering Europe would be like winning the tournament. That will be the intended aim.
The Diamond is fully focused on maintaining the Premiership in the interim, and he has every confidence that his club will succeed.
He declared that we would win the relegation play-offs if they were held. Indeed, without a doubt.
