Antonio Pierce is leaving for New Orleans Saints
The next month, Carr agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract with the New Orleans Saints, rejoining Dennis Allen, the head coach of the Raiders, in a reunion.
The seasoned quarterback claims that Raiders supporters did not witness him play to the best of his skills during the previous campaign. In a media appearance, Carr revealed that his struggles on the offense are a result of understanding Josh McDaniel’s offensive scheme and handling personal matters off the field.
Carr said this week at minicamp, They just didn’t get my best, and that drove me nuts at the end of the year because I felt so spread out in so many different ways. I was just not feeling like myself, and I’m sorry for the Raiders’ players and coaches.
Carr feels that he didn’t perform to his usual level during the previous season, and the Saints organization is aware of this. But the team also understands that Carr’s focus for this next phase of his career is on improving himself.
Dennis Allen, the coach of the Saints, discussed the organization’s feelings as they pursued Carr following his release. After analyzing the footage of his minicamp exercises, they think he has the potential to regain the kind of form that twice propelled the Raiders into the postseason.
We discussed how, according to Allen, he may not have had the season he had hoped for or anticipated last year. Allen continued, “All I can say is that he’s clearly focused on being the best version of himself for this football club when I watch him now.”
Carr had seen his debut season with the Saints as an opportunity to begin anew with a new organization. For the first nine years of his ten-year career, including a transitional time when the Raiders officially moved to Las Vegas ahead of the 2020 season, the 32-year-old quarterbacked the team as their starter.
Carr played for the Black and Silver, winning 62 games as a starter while passing for 35,222 yards and 217 touchdowns with a QB rating of 91.8. According to the statistics, Carr has led the team in throwing touchdowns all-time and has the greatest pass completion percentage (91.2%) in a single season.
Carr played for the Raiders for nine years, but he only made it to the postseason twice despite his individual success. Due to injury, he was unable to participate in the postseason in 2016.
The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Las Vegas Raiders in the Wild Card round of the 2021 playoffs after quarterback Carr threw an interception to wide receiver Germaine Pratt in the final seconds of the game.
