Despite obstacles, Brian Johnson will interview for the Panthers head coach position.
Despite the team’s recent troubles, it seems the Carolina Panthers are still considering Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson as a potential head coach candidate.
Johnson is anticipated to interview for the head coaching position at Carolina, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
According to Brooks Kubena of The Athletic, Johnson will not be able to interview with the Panthers until January 18. He will only be able to do a virtual interview with the Eagles if they are still in the playoffs at that time.
As offensive coordinator for Philadelphia, Johnson is in his first season in the role. From 2021 to 2022, he was the team’s quarterbacks coach. After Shane Steichen left to become the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, he took over as the team’s offensive playcaller.
The Eagles had a difficult final six games, dropping five of them, but they still finished the season with an 11-6 record and ninth in total yards and points scored.
This season, the Philadelphia offensive also averaged 25.5 points, 128.8 running yards, and 225.5 passing yards per game.
After a rather sluggish start to his career, quarterback Jalen Hurts has flourished as a passer in each of the last two seasons, and Johnson is usually praised for his work with him. In 32 games throughout the past two seasons, he has completed passes for 7,559 yards and 45 touchdowns against 21 interceptions.
Johnson coached quarterbacks and served as offensive coordinator for 11 years in college football before coming to the Eagles. He lived in Florida, Utah, Houston, Mississippi, and so on.
The Detroit Lions’ Ben Johnson, the Houston Texans’ Bobby Slowik, the Cincinnati Bengals’ Brian Callahan, the Dallas Cowboys’ Dan Quinn, and the Detroit Lions’ Brian Callahan are among the other coordinators the Panthers have asked to speak with.
The Panthers “would love to find a way” to hire Ben Johnson, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, who reported on Wednesday. Johnson looks to be on the team’s wish list.
