Freddie Freeman has done a great deal during his remarkable MLB career. The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman is a seven-time All-Star, a World Series victor, a Gold Glove winner, and the league’s greatest hitter, the Hank Aaron Award winner. He has accomplished almost everything.
But before the 2024 season begins, he has one objective in mind. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Freeman hopes to strike out fewer than 100 times this season. Freeman would need to average fewer strikeouts per game in order to achieve his other aim of playing every day.
Over the course of his 14-year MLB career, Freeman has come very close to achieving this objective multiple times. In 159 games during his first campaign with the Dodgers in 2022, he struck out 102 batters. In 159 games with the Atlanta Braves in 2021, Freeman struck out 107 times in the previous season. Freeman didn’t play enough games to make his seasons with just 95 strikeouts in 2017 and 98 strikeouts in 2015 particularly noteworthy.
Given his skill at placing the ball in play, Freeman can definitely accomplish this goal.
And so far this spring, he’s looked fantastic, particularly on Wednesday when he crushed a grand slam in the Dodgers’ 12-9 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Freeman still wants to play in all 162 games this season and remain healthy. It would be fantastic if he struck out fewer than 100 times, but the most crucial thing is that he be available to the Dodgers for the entire season.
