Jerrod Johnson, a Texas A&M graduate, will be interviewing again for the position of OC for the New Orleans Saints.
A former starting quarterback for Texas A&M is getting closer to taking over as the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator.
Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk reports that Jerrod Johnson, the coach of the Houston Texans’ quarterbacks, has conducted a second interview with the Saints over their open position. This week, he had his first interview, the first of three he would have with the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers, respectively.
Prior to playing for six different NFL teams, Johnson created history at College Station. The Houston native owned the program records for both total offensive yards (8,888) and throwing yards (8,011) at the time of his graduation from Texas A&M. Both records are currently held by Kellen Mond, and Johnson is third in terms of total yards, behind Mond and Johnny Manziel.
Johnson began his coaching career in 2017 as a member of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship with the San Francisco 49ers. With the Indianapolis Colts, he held the same role in 2019 before being promoted to offensive quality control coach for the following two seasons. Before joining the Texans as head coach DeMeco Ryan’s assistant quarterbacks coach before the current season, Johnson was employed by the Minnesota Vikings in 2022.
With Ohio State graduate CJ Stroud doing so well under Johnson’s tutelage, the interviews for the former Aggie will keep coming in.
