According to a report from ESPN on Tuesday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks and left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery have reached an agreement on a one-year, $25 million contract with a vesting player option for a potential second year.
With this move, the D-Backs, who won the National League pennant last season, have a better chance of winning the Fall Classic this year. Arizona is snatching Montgomery from the Texas Rangers, who defeated them in the 2023 World Series.(RELATED: In a really confusing move, the Miami Dolphins make an offer to Odell Beckham Jr., and I’m all for it)
After a successful season, it was believed that Montgomery’s market would be high, and a $25 million agreement with a potential $20 million player option fulfilled that expectation.
After being traded from the St. Louis Cardinals at the deadline, Montgomery spent the final 67⅔ of his 2023 season with the Rangers, where he pitched for a career-best 3.20 ERA. In the wild-card round, Montgomery shut out the Tampa Bay Rays in seven innings, demonstrating his continued dominance. He proceeded with 14 scorching innings in the ALCS, which helped the Rangers win the World Series.
