A Message for Donte DiVincenzo of the Knicks from Kelly Oubre
Philadelphia 76ers guard Kelly Oubre got into a physical altercation with New York Knicks veteran Donte DiVincenzo during a low-scoring game between two Atlantic Division rivals.
When DiVincenzo possessed the ball close to the basket late in the game, a sea of Sixers defenders swarmed him. In addition to Oubre, 76ers veteran Nic Batum surrounded DiVincenzo. When the whistle blew, the Knicks struck back when Oubre’s move on the veteran knocked him down into Batum.
DiVincenzo tripped Oubre and sent him to the ground by wrapping his legs around him. Oubre dismissed it with a smile, unmoved, and stood up slowly, not caring what would come next.
Following the return of both teams to their benches, the officiating staff evaluated the play. Players from both teams received technical fouls. DiVincenzo and Hartenstein both landed one, as was to be expected. Reed was the only Sixers player to be hit with a tech.
Oubre handled the event with the same attitude he showed on the floor after the game.
According to Gina Mizell of the Inquirer, he informed reporters, “I ain’t got no enemies in this league.” I find all of that stuff to be humorous. I’m not sure why. At the end of the day, nobody is going to fight, so I just chuckle.
Even though there was some trash talk and some shoving, the altercation was typical for the NBA, particularly between two division rivals.
On Monday, the Sixers, with fewer players, defeated the Knicks. Despite his lack of offensive effectiveness, Oubre managed to score 18 points in the low-scoring contest. With eleven boards, he made it a double-double evening.
