The San Francisco 49ers made a significant move on Monday, securing veteran quarterback Joshua Dobbs
to bolster their depth chart. According to NFL Network and ESPN, Dobbs signed a $2.25 million one-year contract, with potential incentives to increase his earnings by an additional $750,000.
Dobbs assumes the role of starting quarterback Brock Purdy’s primary backup, taking over for Sam Darnold, who left to sign a free agent contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Dobbs, who is 29 years old, brings a plethora of experience to the 49ers, especially following an incredible season full of unexpected turns and turns. Dobbs started more games last season than at any other point in his NFL career, despite being involved in a flurry of trades.
As they awaited the injury recovery of starting quarterback Kyler Murray, the Arizona Cardinals acquired Dobbs from the Cleveland Browns at the start of the season. Dobbs started eight games as the starting quarterback in Arizona, going 1–7 in those contests. His adventure did not end there, though, as the Minnesota Vikings added him right before the trade deadline after quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered an Achilles tendon tear.
Now that Dobbs is a 49er, the team hopes to use his experience and leadership to add stability and depth at the quarterback position as they prepare for the upcoming season.
