Report: Bucs Are “Far Apart” From Reaching a New Agreement With Mike Evans, a Star Wide Receiver
Mike Evans is a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Since joining the organization 10 years ago after attending Texas A&M, Evans has been an exemplary player, teammate, and community leader. Given that he has over 1,000 receiving yards in ten straight seasons, he is the definition of consistency. In addition to winning a Super Bowl ring, he has received multiple Pro Bowler designations.

Evans has stated that he wants to stay in Tampa Bay in the hopes of securing a longer deal. Evans and his agency had set a deadline for having a contract in before the 2023 season started, but that never happened. Now that Evans and the Bucs have not yet reached a contract extension, it seems likely that the talented wide receiver will be heading toward free agency, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.

It appears that Evans and the Bucs have very different ideas about how the extension should or could look. The Buccaneers organization will have to absorb a significant amount of dead-cap money if a deal isn’t done today. Even if a contract isn’t reached by today, talks can and probably will go on, and a lot of it could depend on the Bucs’ strategy for negotiating with quarterback Baker Mayfield.
