One of the favorites to become commander is a former Steelers coach.
Brian Flores, a former senior defensive assistant for the Pittsburgh Steelers, is considered one of the favorites for several available head coaching positions, but he hasn’t been interviewed for any of them yet.
Flores’s greatest chances to date are with the Washington Commanders, where he is ranked fifth for their open head coach position at BetOnline.ag. Flores is now behind Ben Johnson (3/1), Todd Monken (10/1), Bill Belichick, Bobby Slowik, Mike MacDonald (9/1) and Eric Bieniemy and Jim Harbaugh (6/1).
Even if Flores isn’t as popular, his name is still on the waiting list for other positions. He is now listed as a favorite against the Los Angeles Chargers (33/1), Tennessee Titans (25/1), and Atlanta Falcons (12/1).
After only one season in charge of the defensive unit for the Minnesota Vikings, Flores improved the team’s standings from 29th in 2022 in terms of points allowed and 31st in terms of yards allowed to 13th this season.
It was assumed that Flores would be a prominent candidate in the 2022 coaching carousel when he signed with the Steelers. That might have increased after a year with the Vikings, but he will face competition from some well-known players, such as those mentioned above.
