JUST NOW: New York Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll was fired for remarks he made about…
Last week, former Dallas Cowboys defensive end Don Smerek lost his battle with cancer. His age was sixty-six.
Smerek represented Nevada in collegiate football. Smerek eventually signed with the Cowboys in 1981 after going undrafted. After that, the defensive lineman played in 69 games throughout his seven-year stay on the team.
He ended his career with 14.5 sacks in Dallas.
Former Cowboys player and Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White described the individual as “a good teammate, a fantastic person.” “He was a highly dependable football player who was always there for me.” As a football player, Don had one advantage: he was all in. He would rush the passer on third downs.
White also remembered how often he and Smerek went fishing.
“A fantastic football partner who aided in our off-field friendship development.” He used to be my fishing buddy, and we would go fishing and do everything else together.
Nye stated of his colleagues, “Those individuals are still there, and they were virtually on his side,” as reported by The Dallas Morning News. “His teammates have been friends since high school, college, and the NFL.” He had a fascinating personality and was a larger-than-life character.
Later this month, in Henderson, Nevada, a private memorial service honoring Smerek’s life will be held at the family’s request. Along with his wife Tandi, three brothers, a sister, and a large number of nieces and nephews, Smerek leaves behind a large family..
