Falcons sign Rams DC Raheem Morris over top Saints offensive lineman Zac Robinson
Undoubtedly, the Atlanta Falcons have made a difficult decision by selecting Zac Robinson as their offensive coordinator, bypassing the most deserving candidate from the New Orleans Saints.
According to Albert Breer of the MMQB, the Saints had requested a second interview with Robinson, but he is currently unavailable.
Robinson’s success as the Los Angeles Rams’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach speaks for itself, and he’s landing in an excellent place to implement the Sean McVay-style system. Robinson had one of the greatest resumes of all the coaches the Saints had interviewed for their opening.
Robinson should make the most of Atlanta’s years-long investment in premium draft picks in the skill positions, which included the selection of playmakers like tight end Kyle Pitts, wide receiver Drake London, and running back Bijan Robinson.
If Atlanta can find a quarterback, that is. This offseason, Robinson, general manager Terry Fontenot (a longtime subordinate of Mickey Loomis), and new head coach Raheem Morris will have to overcome that difficulty. Like Arthur Smith and the Falcons coaches before him, they will lose their jobs if they can’t get that right.
Although it’s disappointing to lose out on Robinson, it makes sense that he’s picking Atlanta. For the past three years, he and Morris have been coaching against each other every day at practice, and they have won numerous games together. Selecting a known amount rather than a brand-new Saints scenario
Likely the safer call, in his mind. We’ll see how that goes for him, then. With the Dirty Birds, we’ll wish Robinson nothing but the worst.
