Joe Burrow was placed under arrest.
Joe Burrow, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, was jailed after he attacked a supporter.
Prior to the 2024 NFL Draft, former Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy was compared to Cincinnati Bengals signal-caller Joe Burrow.
ESPN’s Matt Miller said that he met with an NFL scout who “said J.J. McCarthy would be Joe Burrow if he were on a team that threw the ball” during an appearance on the Matt Barrie Show at the 25-second mark.
“J.J. McCarthy is well regarded in the scouting community. He is quite tough. His arm is quite large. He’s coachable and an excellent athlete,” Miller continued.
McCarthy’s skill set was compared to that of Burrow by one NFL executive, according to Miller’s article from last month, “because of his mobility, toughness, winning mindset, and ability to hit every ball.”
An NFC general manager said, “McCarthy isn’t really permitted to do a lot at Michigan, but he’s so gritty and difficult.” “The ceiling is penetrated by the moxie. Furthermore, he is a far superior passer overall than most realize.”
The Report on BleachersMcCarthy is now the fourth-best quarterback available in the class of 2024, according to the NFL Scouting Department, behind LSU’s Jayden Daniels, USC’s Caleb Williams, and UNC’s Drake Maye.
Prior to the Senior Bowl, he was ranked as the seventh-best signal-caller available by the B/R Scouting Department. He outpaced players like Michael Penix Jr. of Washington and Bo Nix of Oregon.
McCarthy, B/R NFL Scout Derrik Klassen wrote:
“A Shanahan-style scheme that streamlines preparation for the snap and leans into throws over the middle of the field with the aid of play action is where McCarthy fits in the best. He’s got the pocket toughness and arm talent needed to be effective in that system. McCarthy will still need some time to hone his skills at moving out of the pocket and, ideally, gain strength and weight.”
McCarthy attended Michigan for his whole three years of college, and he just had his best season as a Wolverine in 2023. In 15 games, he ran for 202 yards and three touchdowns while also completing 72.3 percent of his throws for 2,991 yards and 22 touchdowns, versus four interceptions.
With a victory against Washington, Michigan won its first national title in the College Football Playoffs and went undefeated, in part because of McCarthy.
It’s probable that McCarthy will only raise his draft stock in the run-up to the draft, given the approaching NFL Combine. Given that he’s already being compared to Burrow, a fortunate team may acquire a franchise quarterback.
