Despite having a winning season, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel fired one of his best players.
He was fired after the team finished 9–8. As a result, there are currently just two black head coaches in the NFL.
The social media community is responding to the shocking dismissal of Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, with several former players joining the conversation.
The sacking of Flores, who finished the 2021 season with a winning record and a seven-game winning run with the Fins, was the subject of a tweet that defensive back Nik Needham posted, along with the emoticon for sobbing.
Brandon Jones, a fellow defensive back, tweeted his appreciation for working with Flores as well: I’m really grateful to this man for believing in me. Thank you so much, Coach Flo!
However, some people on social media weren’t as hesitant to call attention to something suspicious about Flores’ termination.
Many people were shocked to learn that Flores had been fired, especially after he had won two straight seasons. In 2021, the Dolphins overcame a 1-7 start to finish 9-8, highlighted by a season-ending 33-24 victory against division rival New England.
The good news for Flores is that, when the next round of coach hiring kicks off, he should be among the top candidates for head coach.
Following their dismissals, head coaches Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers and David Culley of the Houston Texans were the only black head coaches in the National Football League. Nevertheless, Eric Bieniemy of the Kansas City Chiefs and Byron Leftwich of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are seen as strong contenders for head coaching jobs in the upcoming offseason.
