JUST NOW: Pittsburgh Penguins’ Mike Sullivan Declares His Deperture Because of…
Pittsburgh The Pittsburgh Penguins’ supporters have been clamoring for a coaching change following their team’s second consecutive postseason absence and their lack of playoff series victories since 2018. Although Mike Sullivan, the team’s head coach, is set to start a new three-year deal, Penguins supporters are still clamoring for a different coach.
Although Sullivan’s position with the Penguins might not be in danger, there are rumors circulating that he might be departing Pittsburgh. Nick Kypreos of the Toronto Star reports that Sullivan may be open to joining a rival team in the Metropolitan Division.
According to Kypreos, there is a report that Sullivan may try to sign a deal to play for the New Jersey Devils alongside his friend Tom Fitzgerald.
“The rumors that Mike Sullivan, the head coach of the Penguins, is moving to New Jersey to live with his close buddy Tom Fitzgerald will not go away”
Sullivan served as the Boston Bruins’ youthful head coach in 2005–06, Fitzgerald’s final NHL season. Both of them are from Massachusetts, and they are of the same age.
Kyperos continued, claiming that Sullivan might leave Pittsburgh for New Jersey because he didn’t trust Kyle Dubas to lead.
“It might just come down to Sullivan’s lack of faith in GM Dubas’s ability to contend anytime soon, even though he is under contract.”
After just one season as the Penguins’ president and general manager, Dubas is already the subject of rumors that the team is losing faith in him.
Sullivan, who joined the Penguins in 2015–16, has the franchise record for the most victories by a head coach. Early reports from local reporters suggest that Sullivan isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, especially with a new contract set to start.
It is significant to remember that before being dealt at the deadline, Jake Guentzel rejected a contract offer from the Penguins, according to a prior report by Kypreos. The rumor was promptly refuted, and there was never any serious contract negotiations between Guentzel and the Penguins.
