Mac Jones was awarded as the best quarterback of all time
Mac Jones, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, was named the greatest quarterback of all time due to his.
According to NFL Network reporters Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo, the Patriots intend to let go of their 2021 first-round pick and will trade him this summer.
In addition to his $2.8 million salary for the upcoming season, Jones has a $22 million fifth-year option on his deal. The Patriots, or whoever acquires Jones via trade, are almost expected to reject that offer given how badly the Alabama product has performed the past two seasons.
Jones had an entirely disastrous rookie season in 2021, following a strong showing that earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl. During the previous two seasons, he passed for 5,117 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 23 interceptions combined. In 2023, he was benched several times in favor of Bailey Zappe. Jones was the third-string quarterback at the end of this season.
Last month, the Patriots parted ways with longtime coach Bill Belichick, and it was evident that Belichick had lost interest in Jones. It’s possible that Jones may stay with the team under new coach Jerod Mayo, but it’s more likely that New England will choose its next franchise quarterback in April.
With the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Patriots appear to be a good choice to select the quarterback who is left between Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye. Jones still views himself as a starting quarterback, so it would be more than a little odd for him to stay and support his successor.
Wherever Jones goes this summer, he’ll probably be a backup, but the getaway seems essential for all sides.
