Sooners head coach declears his resignation.
“Nothing will compare to what this year and this team have been,” Bahl wrote in a note posted to social media. “I have decided to return home and play the game I love, closer to the things that have made me who I am and that have always been more important to me than this game.”
The Papillion, Nebraska, native hurled 24 2/3 scoreless innings in the Women’s College World Series and closed out the championship series to secure the national title. The Sooners also finished the season with a 61-1 record that featured a 53-game winning streak that will carry into next season.
“For the last 2 years, despite the amazing opportunities and accomplishments, my love for home and the acknowledgment of my foundation have grown,” Bahl wrote. “Being away from these things has been very tough. Through the constant battles that outsiders do not see, my teammates and coaches were always understanding, loving, and nothing but supportive. The bond developed with these girls can and will never be broken.”
The sophomore was dominant during her two years at OU.
During her freshman year in 2022, Bahl posted a 22-1 record and 1.09 ERA while striking out 205 and holding opposing hitters to a .145 average. In 2023, she had the same 22-1 record but posted a 0.90 ERA and 192 strikeouts and held batters to a .160 average.
“My heart is full of gratitude and love for the girls, coaches, and people at the University of Oklahoma,” she wrote. “I am excited to return home and be Jordy Bahl, the softball player, but more importantly, the person. I am excited to think about growing the game that has provided me with so many opportunities for growth in my home state, a current overlooked state for girls in softball at all ages, and I am excited to finish the softball journey right where it began.”
