The Detroit Lions’ nickelback and safety Brian Branch is reportedly recuperating from an undisclosed ailment, according to recently released photos. However, it’s far too early to become concerned at this point.
During the draft, Branch was spotted in the town. Pictures of the 2023 second-round selection reveal that he rides a scooter and wears a boot. Although Branch appears to be in control of his situation, it is unclear what he is doing or what his future intentions entail.
Given that Branch was essential to the Lions’ defense in 2023 and is now desperately required for a season in which Detroit hopes to win the Super Bowl, this is at least somewhat worrying.
The Alabama product had a great rookie campaign, performing admirably in the slot. Branch received a PFF coverage grade of 76.0 after giving up a 62.7% completion rate and an 86.9 passer rating when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.
The Lions did add a number of players in the summer that could prove useful in the event that Branch has to miss any time. Terrion Arnold, Ennis Rakestraw, Amik Robertson, and a free agent acquisition can all play out of the spot.
