Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles sign a divorces agreement with his wife due to
After serving as the Bucs’ defensive coordinator for a few seasons, former head coach Bruce Arians departed, giving Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles the keys to a loaded squad in one of the greatest scenarios you could imagine.
Following a turbulent tenure of 24–40 (.375 winning%) as head coach of the New York Jets from 2015–2018, Bowles was granted another opportunity with the Buccaneers.
Despite being in a favorable scenario, Bowles hasn’t been able to do much in his time with Tampa Bay. He is 14-16 and was eliminated by the Dallas Cowboys, who started quarterback Tom Brady, in the Wild Card stage of the playoffs the previous season.
There are rumors that Robert Kraft has decided to part ways with the legendary coach after this season, so if the Buccaneers brass decides to let go of Todd Bowles after this one, CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan thinks that Bill Belichick, the head coach of the New England Patriots, might be the next in line to take over.
“Don’t sleep on this eventuality, but there would be an ironic element if a Patriots icon landed on the Buccaneers once more,” Sullivan wrote.
The irony of this action stems from the fact that in 2020, Tom Brady, the quarterback for the Patriots, joined the Buccaneers during free agency and went on to win a championship in just his first season. Not only did Brady relocate to Tampa Bay, but so did Rob Gronkowski, Shaq Mason, Logan Ryan, and Antonio Brown, who all joined Brady in the red and pewter.
Since bringing Bruce Arians out of retirement to coach Brady most recently and since hiring Jon Gruden to replace Tony Dungy, the Buccaneers have made headlines when it comes to head coach selections.
There are other reasons to consider the hypothetical move positively, besides the potential to make a big splash in the head coaching position. Jason Licht, the general manager of the Buccaneers, and Bill Belichick are also acquainted because of Licht’s tenure in New England.
Sullivan noted, “GM Jason Licht had two different tenures under Belichick with the Patriots, including a stretch from 2009 to 2011, when he was the director of player personnel. There is familiarity with the Buccaneers front office.” “Belichick and Licht, in their hypothetical partnership, may take a cooperative approach to roster construction with that previous working relationship in mind.”
It is still to be determined what route the Buccaneers’ top decision-makers will take, and they will likely want to watch how the last four regular season games and playoff game(s)—if they make it—play out before choosing what direction they want their future to go.
