The coaching staff of the New York Yankees for the 2024 season has been announced.
Under manager Aaron Boone, the New York Yankees have revealed their coaching staff for the 2024 campaign.
Boone, who is taking over as manager of the Yankees for a sixth season, is under pressure following the team’s first-ever postseason exit. The Yankees record was 82–80.
The Yankees traded five players to the San Diego Padres this offseason in order to obtain Juan Soto during the All-Star’s final season of control. At the end of the 2024 campaign, Soto will be a free agent.
Although not publicly disclosed, all of the coaching changes had been previously rumored.
Brad Ausmus, the new bench coach, is the most well-known of the new coaches. He takes over for Carlos Mendoza, who is now the New York Mets manager.
In addition to his 17 years of playing, Ausmus has managed the Detroit Tigers for five of those years, helping them win the 2014 AL Central. In 2022, he served as Oakland’s bench coach.
James Rowson was brought on by the Yankees as their hitting instructor. Sean Casey, a midseason addition to the Yankees staff, is replaced by him.
Rowson served in a similar capacity with the Miami Marlins in 2022–2023 and as the Tigers’ assistant hitting coach in 2023. From 2017 to 2019, he served as the hitting coach for the Minnesota Twins. Aaron Judge was one of his students during his seven years as the Yankees’ Minor League hitting coordinator prior to his appointment as an MLB coach.
Pat Roessler was appointed assistant hitting coach by the Yankees, a move that may have helped Soto feel more at ease. During his final season with Washington (2020–23), he assisted Soto with tutoring for more than two seasons. He took Brad Wilkerson’s spot.
The remaining members of Boone’s 2023 staff are back, including MLB field coordinator and director of catching Tanner Swanson, pitching coach Matt Blake, bullpen coach Mike Harkey, assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel, third base coach Luis Rojas, first base coach Travis Chapman, and assistant hitting coach Casey Dykes.
