Xavien Howard is released by the Miami Dolphins Strong disapproval is expressed by Jalen Ramsey, who names him the best cornerback in Miami history..
After one season of playing alongside Howard, Ramsey chastised a former Dolphins player for not making the most of their entire skill set.
Many people think that Ramsey was alluding to former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, even though he did not name the individual.
Recently, Fangio joined the Philadelphia Eagles after leaving the Dolphins.
The Dolphins’ defense was strong in the previous campaign; they gave up the 11th-most points per game but were 10th in yards allowed per game.
In a social media post on Friday, Ramsey referred to Howard as the best cornerback in Miami history before seemingly disparaging a former player for the Dolphins.Mike McDaniel, the team’s head coach, said that cutting ties with Fangio was the correct course of action.
Howard will become an unrestricted free agent, while Ramsey has two more years left on his deal.
much though he was unhappy, Howard thanked the Dolphins and pledged to return much stronger.
With 29 interceptions since 2016, Howard has emerged as one of the NFL’s best lockdown corners and is tied for fourth most in Dolphins history among all cornerbacks.
In 2020, he was selected as an All-Pro and appeared in four Pro Bowls.
His performance has suffered recently due to injuries, such as a groin strain in 2022 and a mid-foot sprain in 2023 that kept him out of games, including a Chiefs playoff loss.
Furthermore, Howard had no guaranteed income beyond the 2023 season due to his contract condition, which made him vulnerable to being cut.
He said he didn’t know what the future held and that he didn’t want to lose money.
With $4 million guaranteed, the Dolphins had to decide how to handle Howard’s $15.4 million basic pay in 2024.
The team’s cap space would have been constrained if he had been cut before June 1.
The Dolphins now need a cornerback since Jalen Ramsey, who made his comeback from injury in 2024, is the only reliable option behind him.
Although they have less experience and injury worries, Kader Kohou, Cam Smith, Ethan Bonner, and Keion Crossen are other cornerbacks with contracts.
