The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that three players would be let go after…
After the NFL Draft in 2024, three Falcons might be released.
The Atlanta Falcons may make these three cuts after the draft, depending on how things work out.
NFL teams frequently make changes to their rosters. In Atlanta, Terry Fontenot has shown it by executing deals, layoffs, and signings on a daily basis.
During the draft, teams select a new group of players, therefore new players are bound to emerge. It’s possible that these three players will find out that a rookie will be joining the Falcons in their place.
1. IOL Gwyn JoVaughn
Jo-Vaughn Gwyn did not participate in any offensive plays during the previous season and was chosen in the seventh round by the previous coaching team. He is therefore not entitled to any guarantees.
A such move was precedented by the team’s departure of former Georgia Bulldog and late-round selection Justin Shaffer. His situation was quite similar to Gwyn’s.
Gwyn’s mentality will likely cause him to be replaced in the middle to late rounds. Given the lack of loyalty from the coaching staff, he may lose his job.
2. Ogundeji Ade OLB
Ade Ogundeji has little choice but to accept his luck if he even makes it through preseason, much less make it beyond final cuts, even if it upsets me to beat someone who is already down.
When Ogundeji was the team’s main starter in 2022, he did not play well. He barely managed a couple pressures during the course of a complete season in his sophomore year. Taking over for Jalen Mayfield, he was the worst NFL starter—I had written about it back then.
Ogundeji’s season was ended by an injury, from which he is now rehabilitating. If Ogendeji recovers from an injury as a marginal player, it will be a severe setback for his career, especially if the Falcons decide to pick a lot of edge rushers.
3. Richie Grant, S.
The trajectory of Richie Grant’s career has not been what he had anticipated. Grant was projected to be an above-average starter when he was selected in the second round out of UCF. That hasn’t truly occurred.
He has performed admirably on times, but he always appears to revert to his previous tendencies of burning out in coverage or missing a crucial tackle. When Grant was benched in favor of DeMarcco Hellams during the previous season, he had been playing every play.
The Falcons intend to cut ties with Grant in the event that they choose a safety in the second round.
