According to 90min, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion are the front-runners in the race to sign teenage phenom Lorran from Flamengo.
The 17-year-old, who plays for Jay-Z’s ROC Nation Sports agency, is widely regarded as one of Brazilian football’s brightest talents. In January, when he scored in his team’s 1-1 tie with Bangu, he set a club record for the youngest goal scorer.
The top brass in Europe are keeping a careful eye on Lorran’s progress, according to sources with knowledge of his circumstances, and Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion are already in negotiations about a prospective transfer.
90min is able to disclose that United, who have had a difficult start to the 2023–24 season, have been actively pursuing Lorran for a number of months in an effort to close a deal quickly in order to beat off a number of competitors.
Their main rival to date, Brighton, has also had discussions with the players’ representation about a future move to the AMEX Stadium. Brighton has a history of nurturing young players.
Although the Premier League’s Chelsea, Manchester City, and West Ham United have all expressed interest in Lorran recently, Flamengo is in no rush to offload their greatest asset.
Along with formidable European rivals Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, 90min can also reveal that Real Madrid’s renowned talent scout Juni Calafat is keeping track of Lorran’s progress in South America.
Even though Lorran won’t be old enough to travel to Europe until next July, when he becomes 18, a deal can still be made now; Endrick’s upcoming move from Palmeiras to Real Madrid in 2025 is one such example. His current Flamengo contract has a release clause that is reportedly set at €50 million (£43 million) and continues through December 2025.
