The Warriors’ 2023–24 NBA season has been inconsistent thus far, but head coach Steve Kerr thinks the group can create a lot of noise if they can advance to the postseason.
In an interview with Joe Shasky and Bonta Hill for 95.7 The Game’s “The Morning Roast,” Kerr said that the club has been playing especially well on the road as the regular season comes to an end.
Reasons behind Kerr’s belief that the Warriors can “do some damage” in the NBA Playoffs
“As for the road vs. home record, I wish I had the answer for you, but I don’t,” Kerr remarked. It has been an odd season in that aspect, Kerr said. “Last year we were dominant at home and this year we’re about.500.”
Even though I’m not good at road-home splits, I can see that we’re playing well right now. We’ve been playing fantastic two-way basketball, our defense has been strong up until this last game, and we’ve been pretty good with the ball over the past few months, which has helped to significantly reduce turnovers.”
According to Kerr, the team has been gelling and if the Warriors make it to the postseason, they will be able to play against the top Western Conference clubs.
Kerr went on, “And the guys are really connected.” “They’re actually cooperating and helping one another out. Since they’ve all been so amazing, leading the group has been a lot of fun this season. We’re working extremely hard to qualify for the playoffs because, if we do, I believe we can cause some havoc.
Golden State’s 19-19 record indicates that they have had consistency issues the entire season, especially at home. With a 22-15 road record, the Warriors are tied for the sixth-best away record in the league this year. Despite showing glimpses of excellence this season against some of the top NBA teams, the club has played a lot of inconsistently against weaker opponents.
Choosing Kerr’s starting lineup once Kuminga returns isn’t all that difficult.
Even though the Warriors have won five straight games, their seven losses after trailing by more than 15 points still stand as a stark reminder of their prior setbacks.
With seven games left in the regular season, Golden State is ranked tenth in the Western Conference. Up next are crucial games against the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans.
The Warriors would play the Los Angeles Lakers in a play-in game that would determine who would advance to the postseason—not the best scenario for a club hoping to go far in the postseason.
Nevertheless, Kerr has many reasons to think the Warriors can rise to the pressure in the playoffs, considering their history of championships and their postseason performance over the previous ten seasons.
