Although Bronny James, an NBA prospect, is not expected to be selected first in the forthcoming draft, there seems to be increased interest in his game throughout the league, according to recent sources. In particular, Bronny’s consideration has recently expanded to the Dallas Mavericks, who are widely believed to be selecting him with the 58th overall choice.
NBA insider Marc Stein claimed, “The Mavericks would have interest in selecting Bronny James with the 58th overall pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.” The Mavericks are aware that it’s quite doubtful that James will be eligible for selection, though. According to all existing signs, LeBron James’ 19-year-old son will be chosen earlier in the second round than Dallas, which will have the final pick in the draft.
In only a few months, the 2024 NBA Draft will take place, and as of yet, there is no consensus over the best prospects. Even though Bronny is well-known, he isn’t among the best at the moment, but that didn’t stop him from signing up for the draft as soon as possible.
Although James, 19, only scored 4.8 points per game on average while attending USC, his rise to prominence this summer has been largely attributed to his family name and sophisticated game knowledge. Even though there were some questions about whether he was an NBA-caliber prospect, his performance at the combine raised some significant attention.
Beyond a few of the abilities he offers, it’s possible that LeBron will arrive after Bronny, which has only raised his draft stock in general. King James, who will soon be able to choose any team he wants thanks to his forthcoming free agency, has the ability to upend the NBA hierarchy even at the age of 39.
The Mavericks have several reasons to think about picking Bronny, regardless of what transpires in the Finals this year. Bronny’s presence might add depth to the guard position in a weak backcourt rotation. His ability to create plays could also help the team stay in the game when Slovenian stars Luka Doncic or Kyrie Irving aren’t playing.
More importantly, though, is that Bronny might be used by the Mavericks to lure LeBron, and the West would suffer greatly if he and the two-star guards combined. We already know that LeBron and Kyrie Irving want to play together as former championship teammates, and the Mavericks would be doing them both a favor if they could do it in Dallas next year.
Sadly for the Mavericks, Bronny has halted any workouts with rival teams and appears intent on joining the Suns or Lakers. It’s also quite doubtful that Bronny will be available when the Lakers have the Nos. 17 and 55 picks in the June 26–27 draft.
The Mavericks’ first goal will be to win the championship this season as long as they survive, but if and when they lose their upcoming game, they should start thinking about how they might improve. Even though PJ Washington, Dereck Lively II, and Daniel Gafford have been excellent for the squad, they still need more celebrities to change the odds in their favor.
LeBron and Bronny can both provide the Mavericks with the support they require, but it is unclear if they will be able to get to him before he leaves the game.
