The NFL record for sacks allowed is almost reached by the Giants.
With aspirations of building on their first-year success under Brian Daboll, the New York Giants went into the 2023 season with high expectations.
Instead, this season has unravelled quickly, with a poor offensive line that is giving up an almost unheard-of amount of sacks being the main problem despite injuries throughout the team.
The Giants have given up 76 sacks, a franchise high, through 14 games. Additionally, according to Statmuse, the Giants of 2023 have been sacked two sacks short of being the second-most in NFL history.
It is unlikely that the Giants will allow 28 more sacks with three games left to tie the 1986 Philadelphia Eagles (104) for the most sacks of any team in NFL history.
For the Giants to catch that clip, they would need to allow 9.3 sacks per game on average during their last three games.
They do have two games left to play, including a matchup with the Eagles, who have a stellar pass rush and might be looking to improve their record.
This season, in six games, the Giants have been sacked at least seven times.
Despite having spent a significant amount of draft capital on the offensive line between Evan Neal (first round) and John Michael Schmitz (second round) during the previous two years, the Giants obviously still need to improve.
