Jim Mora most likely did not win over the UConn supporters on Tuesday.
The football coach told reporters on Tuesday that the team’s 2-9 record this season was largely due to a tiny NIL budget in comparison to other teams across the nation. If supporters weren’t going to support the football program financially, he suggested that they shouldn’t be complaining about the product on the field.

“You know, you see where the world is heading, and it’s really aggravating that we’re a better football team with a poorer record. We play as I mentioned earlier; go check out the schedules of the top five Group of Five teams in the nation and contrast them with ours. In order for us to defeat those teams and earn the support of supporters who want us to defeat Wake Forest, Syracuse, North Carolina State, Duke, and Maryland the next season, financial support must be provided.Because you have no right to b—h when we lose if you won’t assist us in getting the players to beat them.”

That ought to be well received.

In Mora’s first season, the Huskies finished 6-7, qualifying for the Myrtle Beach Bowl but falling to Marshall. The club had only made seven bowl appearances since joining the FBS in 2002, and this was its first since 2015. In football, UConn presently competes as an independent program outside of any conferences.

The school’s specialty has always been basketball. Mora believes that additional funding and resources are required for that to change. Although he is correct, it’s difficult to see how his style of communication will be well received by the fan base.
