Taylor, a former Twins outfielder, has signed with the Pirates
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, former Twins outfielder Michael A. Taylor and the Pittsburgh Pirates have reached an agreement on a one-year, $4 million contract.
Prior to the 2023 season, Taylor, 32, was transferred by the Kansas City Royals to the Twins as an insurance policy for center fielder Byron Buxton, who has a history of injuries. After injuries kept Buxton to designated hitting for the majority of the season, Taylor wound up starting almost every day and appearing in 129 games.
Last season, Taylor had a.220 average, 21 home runs, and 51 RBIs. Taylor has played in Major League Baseball for ten years, during which he has hit.239 with 95 home runs and 332 RBIs. Although Taylor’s bat could use some improvement, he is still a top-tier outfielder who was awarded the Gold Glove Award in 2021.
The Twins probably declined to re-sign Taylor because they believe Buxton can play center field and acquired Manuel Margot from the Los Angeles Dodgers to provide cover.
