NFL DRAFT: Clemson’s Zack Owens departs to
Standing at 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 380 pounds, Owens earned the moniker “Flapjack” for his dominant play in the trenches. Originally recruited as a four-star prospect by Dabo Swinney’s Tigers, he hails from Eagles Landing Christian Academy near Atlanta, the same high school that produced recent CU commits Colton and Brandon Hood. Additionally, Buffs running back Micah Welch reunites with Owens, forming a trio of players who grew up together in Georgia.
Owens was highly regarded nationally, ranking among the top 300 prospects and top 20 offensive linemen in the country. Known for his versatility, he has experience playing every position on the offensive line, a factor that contributed to his selection for the 2023 All-American Bowl.
Describing Owens as one of the premier offensive line prospects in the 2023 recruiting class, 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks highlighted his potential to make a significant impact at the high-major level. Owens possesses physical attributes that could propel him into the upper echelons of the NFL Draft.
With Owens’ addition, Colorado has now secured a total of 34 players from the transfer portal this year, bringing their tally back to negative two with the portal open until April 30th.
During his time at Clemson, Owens appeared in two games and maintained his eligibility by redshirting. He will have four years of eligibility remaining, starting with the upcoming season.
