Everton fans to protest “nonsensical” Premier League points deduction at Man Utd clash

Everton have been deducted 10 points after being found guilty of breaching Premier League finance rules, a decision that has led to Toffees supporters planning protests

Everton fans have raised over £30,000 in a fighting fund to stage a protest against the Premier League.

They plan to make banners, flags and leaflets to show their anger about the ten-point deduction imposed on the club. It will guarantee a hostile reception for Everton ’s clash with Manchester United at Goodison Park next weekend, which is also Sky Sports’ showpiece Super Sunday game in front of the live TV cameras.

Premier League bosses will be guaranteed an angry response from Everton fans who have branded the punishment “disgraceful and nonsensical” after they broke strict profit and sustainability rules.

The anger comes because Everton cooperated fully with the Premier League over their investigation into the case. Everton have already signalled their intention to appeal against the punishment which has seen them drop into the relegation zone.

Manchester City and Chelsea are also facing Premier League investigations and Everton fans are demanding they get similar punishments as they believe they have been made scapegoats.

The huge Premier League sanction also threatens the potential takeover by American investment firm 777Partners who had been set to buy the club for £500m.

But now Everton could also face the threat of legal action from other clubs such as Leeds, Leicester and Burnley could sue after the independent commission’s findings. Everton fans have been out in force at England’s game with Malta at Wembley and are also campaigning in North Macedonia ahead of the Euros qualifier with North Macedonia.

They insist even more cash has been raised and there will be a huge backlash against the Premier League, Sky and other clubs. For years, City booed the Champions League music before games as a protest against UEFA after they charged the Premier League champions.

The Go Fund Me page has been set up by the The1878s Fan Group who have a target to raise £50,000. Their message said: “We have plans in motion regarding banners and flags against the Independent Commission’s quite frankly, disgraceful and nonsensical decision to deduct the club 10 points.

If anyone would like to help, we will release more information in due course.

“Any more donated will go towards making Goodison Park atmosphere as hostile and electric as it can be at a pivotal time for Everton Football Club. We won’t take this lying down. F**k the Premier League.”

Those comments echo the view of Everton chiefs, who have also hit out at the decision. The Toffees released an explosive statement on Friday afternoon announcing their intention to appeal.
