- As he looks to capture his first trophy of the year, Novak Djokovic hopes that his performance at the Monte Carlo Masters has laid solid groundwork for the remainder of the clay court swing.
After falling to Casper Ruud of Norway in three sets, the top-seeded player in the world was eliminated from the Masters 1000 tournament. In Djokovic’s most recent match, he was behind 1-4 in the fourth set but rallied to even the score. The Serbian hit a double fault on match point, so his comeback was insufficient to see him over the finish line. This marks his first defeat at the hands of Ruud, whom he still leads 5-1 in their head-to-head match.

When thinking back on his most recent performance, Djokovic said, “I had my chances, but the last game was not great.”
“He deserved to win because he made unintentional mistakes and was solid until the final shot.”I had some ups and downs with my game. There are good things to remember from this event, even though I’m upset with the result. The good thing is that I overcame losing the first set and discovered my strength in the game. This season, Djokovic has won 11 games and lost four (including the United Cup). Although he hasn’t made it to a tournament final, he did make it to the Australian Open’s final four before falling to Jannik Sinner. Now, in two of the previous three years, he has not won a title in the first four months of a season. However, because of his immunization history, he was not allowed to play in Australia in 2022.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion isn’t overly bothered about his latest title drought, even if he is itching for more hardware. The ATP Finals in Turin last November were the last competition he won.
- “Not winning a title in comparison to the previous 15 years is not a great season at all, as I’m used to really high standards in terms of expectations for the results.”He stated.
However, I had semifinals in Australia and here in Monte Carlo. Since I only participated in three competitions this year, it’s reasonable to assume that you will have certain seasons when you struggle early on, and this is one of those seasons. In terms of outcomes, hopefully I can catch up. I played some solid tennis, so I can build from here. Hopefully, I’ll be able to perform even better in the upcoming competitions. - Djokovic has made the decision not to compete in any of the three tour events scheduled for next week. The Madrid Masters, which he has won three times before, is his next scheduled event.
