The Mahomeses visited Madison Reyes, 10, and Melia Reyes, 8, who were recovering from operations, at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, on Thursday.
The quarterback and his wife, both 28 years old, were shown grinning and posing with the Reyes sisters, their 13-year-old brother, and their parents in photos that People published.
The shooting on Wednesday during the Chiefs’ celebration of their third Super Bowl victory in four years was referred to by the Reyes family as “a senseless act.” Local DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old mother of two, was killed in the violence, which also left 22 other people injured.
Authorities say that the victims were between the ages of eight and forty-seven, with half of them being under sixteen.
“Despite the highs and lows, we are ardent Chiefs supporters and are extremely proud of our hometown team. Following Wednesday’s horrific incident, Madison and Melia’s lives have been irrevocably altered, the Reyes family stated in a statement, as reported by People.
“A surprise visit from Patrick and Brittany Mahomes provided the first smile to their faces since tragedy hit, in a time when they are frightened, saddened, and worried,” the statement continued. “Although they will be wearing their casts for a few months, they can’t wait to show their loved ones the cast that Patrick autographed.”
We would like to express our gratitude to the Mahomes family for their unwavering love, kindness, and care for our children and ask that they be in our thoughts and prayers as they move forward in life.
The family’s GoFundMe page has received over 1,400 donations, surpassing the $185,000 goal. Travis Kelce, the great tight end for the Chiefs, is one of the donors; he gave $100,000 through his charity, Eighty-Seven and Running.
Kelce’s girlfriend, pop sensation Taylor Swift, gave $100,000 to Lopez-Galvan’s family on her own.

Two minors were charged in relation to the incident, according to the authorities. The Jackson County Family Court Division released a news release stating that the two were being held on “arrest resistance and gun-related offenses.”
“More charges are anticipated in the future as the Kansas City Police Department’s investigation continues,” it stated.
