After Oleksandr Usyk won their undisputed heavyweight boxing contest earlier this month, the top Saudi organizer announced on Wednesday that the two would rematch on December 21 in Riyadh.
In the first unification bout of the four-belt era, the unbeaten Ukrainian overcame Britain’s fury in the Saudi capital on May 19 via a split decision.
“The rematch between the undefeated champion Oleksandr Usyk and the champion Tyson Fury is now set for December 21, 2024, during Riyadh Season,” General Entertainment Authority chairman Turki Alalshikh announced on X, the previous Twitter platform.
In 1999, Lennox Lewis of Britain defeated Evander Holyfield to win the final undisputed heavyweight championship. Both men witnessed Usyk hand 35-year-old Fury his first loss from the ring.
The 37-year-old Ukrainian, who was briefly drafted into the military following the Russian invasion, was the uncontested cruiserweight champion and an amateur Olympian who captured medals in the world, Europe, and the Olympics.
