Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Pinterest Email Mike Evans makes it clearly known regarding Baker Mayfield. When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers recently awarded 10-year veteran Mike Evans a huge 2-year, $52 million agreement to stay in Tampa, they addressed one of their main summer questions. The five-time Pro Bowler is now very clear about who he wants to pass the ball to as he attempts to start a career with ten straight 1,000-yard seasons, an NFL record. Evans expressed his desire for free agent Baker Mayfield to return to the team, saying, “Me and Baker, we have a pretty good connection,” to NFL.com. I consider him to be a superb quarterback. It’s understandable why Evans wants Baker to stay in the lineup after the veteran wide receiver had one of his greatest seasons in years with 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and a league-high 13 touchdowns. In his first season with the Bucs, Baker also set career highs in terms of yards gained (4,044), passing touchdowns (28) and completion percentage (64.3%). It very well may have been Mayfield’s final opportunity to establish himself as a starting quarterback in this league when he took a risk on a one-year, $4 million contract with the Bucs during the offseason. With an NFC South title and a postseason triumph over the reigning NFC champion Eagles, Mayfield’s fourth team in three years proved to be just what he needed. Many teams in the NFL are in need of a new quarterback, but if Evans seems this optimistic about his quarterback returning, then it seems like he knows something. According to Spotrac, Tampa has roughly $22.4 million in cap space right now. If they decide to bring Baker back, we’ll see how they will handle what should be a significant salary increase for their quarterback. Share this:FacebookXLike this:Like Loading...
