The Golden State Warriors lost one of Steve Kerr’s top assistants for the second straight season, adding to the impact of their disappointing playoff elimination.
After winning a championship and spending two years with Golden State, Jama Mahlalela decided to rejoin the Toronto Raptors, leaving the Warriors a year after Mike Brown left to take over as head coach of the Sacramento Kings.
With Jama Mahlalela joining the Toronto Raptors, the Golden State Warriors, who are still undergoing significant upheaval, have seen his departure as a “huge loss.”
The Raptors are bringing on Mahlalela and Washington Wizards assistant Pat Delany, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday. This will create a formidable group behind newly hired head coach Darko Rajakovic.
As director of player development, Mahlalela had worked as an assistant with the Warriors for two seasons, giving special attention to the team’s younger players.Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that Mahlalela was also in charge of the Golden State rotation.
For the Warriors, Jama Mahlalela’s loss is significant. prospective NBA head coach.
It makes sense to connect with the Raptors. Prior to this, Jama worked as an assistant for the Raptors and as their head coach for the G League.

Being a Canadian national with strong links to the Raptors, his departure from the team is not shocking. After spending four years at the University of Toronto in the early part of the century, Mahlalela became an assistant with the Raptors in 2013 before becoming head coach of their G League club in 2018.
The Warriors considered acquiring him in the 2021 summer to be a huge coup, since Mahlaela was certainly a vital factor in the team’s title run in the NBA last season.
Following the announcement by longtime general manager and president of basketball operations Bob Myers that he will retire at the end of June, Golden State has already seen a significant amount of upheaval this offseason.
