SAD NEWS: Alabama’s head coach, Kalen DeBoer, resigned because to…
After searching around the Pacific Northwest for a replacement for iconic coach Nick Saban, Alabama formally hired Kalen DeBoer of Washington on Friday.
After just two seasons with the team, DeBoer leaves the Huskies. The Washington sports department issued a statement regarding the coach’s decision shortly after the news was made public.
In a statement, university president Ana Mari Cauce said, “Kalen DeBoer oversaw a great run for UW Football and showed the world that we are capable of competing at the very highest level.” “We wish him the best of luck at Alabama, and while we are disappointed in his decision to leave, he has left us with a solid basis on which to grow.”
Employed in November 2021, DeBoer led the Huskies to an 11–2 record the previous year and a perfect 14–0 start in 2023 before losing to Michigan in the national semifinal.
The 49-year-old, who also has three NAIA titles from the University of Sioux Falls and a distinguished career as an FBS coordinator, comes to Tuscaloosa having only four seasons under his belt as an FBS head coach—two at Fresno State and two at Washington.
Athletic director Troy Dannen of the Huskies said in a statement, “DeBoer has been an amazing leader of our football program and what he did in two seasons on Montlake will forever be a part of our illustrious history.” We tried everything to keep Kalen at UW, therefore we are sad to see him go.
In the end, though, he took a choice that benefited his family and advanced his career objectives.
When Washington enters the Big Ten in 2024, the program will start looking for a new head coach.
