SAD NEWS: Lexi Thompson has revealed that she will to resign from her position as a Goff player because of…
Lexi Thompson, a well-known figure in women’s golf, announced after the conclusion of the 2024 LPGA season that she would be retiring from full-time competition. At a press conference held at Lancaster Country Club, the 29-year-old golfer—who turned pro at the age of fifteen—described her professional path in moving terms. She is playing in the U.S. Women’s Open for the eighteenth consecutive year.
Thompson thought back on her early career with a mixture of gratitude and pleasure. Despite the amazing experience, she made it plain that she is ready to move on from golf, even if it has been her life since she was five years old. She underlined the toll that professional athletes take on their bodies and minds in addition to the sometimes-ignored challenges such as the pressure of constant travel and rigorous training.
Over the course of her career, Thompson achieved a number of notable firsts, including her first major victory (2014) and her youngest LPGA event victory—the 2014 Kraft Nabisco title—at the age of sixteen. Despite her achievements, she has had some close calls and setbacks, including as blowing leads in crucial games and receiving a controversial penalty in the 2017 Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Thompson made the decision to retire gradually. She had been considering going away for a few months and thought the timing and location were perfect. She has stated that she will continue to occasionally attend events even after leaving her full-time job. She wants to expand the Lexi Fitness app, explore new hobbies like working out, and spend more time with her family and friends in the future.
