Kalen DeBoer, the former head coach of Washington, has taken over in Tuscaloosa as the head coach of Alabama, succeeding Nick Saban.
Jalen Milroe, the senior quarterback who led Alabama to a 12-2 record and the College Football Playoffs before losing to Michigan in the semifinals, is a must-have for the Crimson Tide’s new roster. Milroe was the team’s primary starter the previous year.
On the most recent episode of “The No. 1 College Football Show with RJ Young,” host RJ Young spoke with sports media personality Bomani Jones about Milroe’s potential. Milroe’s progress was likened by Jones to that of a former Texas star.

“I think Jayden Daniels was a better player in 2022 than Jalen Milroe was in 2023, but there can be significant offseason swings.” We’ve watched it happen, and to be honest, I’m not sure how big of a step he needs to take—I believe he simply needs to modify a few things,” Jones said. “Another great example of this is the difference in Vince Young’s passing ability between the 2004 and 2005 seasons.”
In the previous campaign, Milroe completed 65.8% of his throws for 2,834 yards, 23 passing touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a passer rating of 172.2. He also rushed for 531 yards and two touchdowns. He participated in four Crimson Tide games.
