In the NFL, deals involving head coaches are even more uncommon than trades involving players. There have only been eight head coach trades in NFL history, and most of these deals are profitable for the side making the acquisition.
Still, there’s a lot of uncertainty around Sean Payton’s status with the Broncos. Payton moved from the bayou to the Rocky Mountains when he accepted the head coaching position with the Broncos in January. That being said, Payton’s side has had a difficult start to 2023, going 1-4 overall with a humiliating 70-20 loss on their record.
The Broncos might not have selected Payton initially. He may not have been their second choice after all. But he was unquestionably the right decision, and Denver now appears to be a long way from their winning ways.
