Report: Bengals are interested in coaching the quarterbacks alongside the Buccaneers assistant
Cincinnati —After Brian Callahan left for Tennessee last week, Dan Pitcher, the quarterbacks coach for the Bengals, was elevated to offensive coordinator. Who will coach the quarterbacks in Pitcher’s place?
Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports that John Van Dam, the tight ends coach for the Buccaneers, is “in consideration” for the position.
The 39-year-old has worked at three different institutions as an assistant or head coach of the quarterback position: Lafayette, Southern Illinois, and Florida. He was appointed tight ends coach before the 2022 season and has been a member of the Buccaneers coaching staff since 2019.
Although Brad Kragthorpe, the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Bengals, is still the front-runner for the position, it’s intriguing to hear at least one name brought up.

Zac Taylor stated, “We have an open quarterback’s (coaching) job,” during Pitcher’s introduction.”That process has started and will continue into the following week as we assess each suitably qualified applicant and determine who is the best fit for our needs. As a staff, we’ll sit down and work through that process, but as he and I collaborate and piece together how the entire thing will operate, his voice will undoubtedly be the loudest on the headset.”
In advance of Super Bowl LVIII, an announcement may be made at any point this week.
