After just two games, Alcaraz pulled out of his match against Thiago Monteiro on Tuesday. Scans revealed a sprained ankle, but the 20-year-old is optimistic about making a speedy recovery.
Before traveling to Indian Wells later in the month, the two-time Grand Slam champion is scheduled to meet fellow Spaniard Rafael Nadal in an exhibition match in Las Vegas on March 3.

Alcaraz posted on Instagram, saying, “After yesterday’s injury, I just got an MRI on my ankle.
“My doctor and physiotherapist met, and after the visit, they diagnosed me with a grade II lateral sprain. I’ll be gone for a few days due to a sprain! I’ll see you in Indian Wells and Las Vegas!”

Alcaraz made the following statement right after the game: “These things happen, especially more so on clay; the court wasn’t the issue; I got wounded when I changed directions. It takes place on this type of surface.
“I returned to the game to see if I could continue or not. After talking with the on-court physio, we both agreed that I should keep trying to see if this gets better.
