Alcaraz On Winning Wimbledon: “It Was the Greatest Experience of My Life”

After defeating Novak Djokovic to win his maiden Wimbledon championship on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz celebrates.By ATP Employees

Novak Djokovic had not lost a match on Centre Court since 2013 going into Sunday’s Wimbledon final. Presenting Carlos Alcaraz, who put an end to the Serbian’s hegemony at the major on grass courts with a nail-biting five-set victory.

After winning his second major event, the 20-year-old was pleased and hopes that his success will motivate the upcoming Tour generation.

“This is the happiest moment of my life—making history,” Alcaraz remarked. I believe there won’t be any changes for a while. I’ve dreamed of defeating Novak and taking home the Wimbledon title ever since I began playing tennis. It’s the greatest moment of my life because of this.

The Spaniard later said, “It’s wonderful for me to beat Novak at his best in this stage and make history by being the one to beat him after 10 years unbeaten on that court.” “It’s definitely something I will never forget. I believe that seeing me defeat him and inspire the next generation to believe in their own abilities is fantastic. I think it’s fantastic for the younger guys as well as for me.

Alcaraz became just the first person in the Open Era (since 1968) to win multiple major titles before turning 21 with his tour-leading 47th victory of the year. Due to his triumph, the Spaniard will start the 29th week at #1 in the Pepperstone ATP Rankings on Monday.

His triumph over Djokovic demonstrates Alcaraz’s ongoing, quick advancement. He was defeated by the Serbian at Roland Garros last month, and following the second set, he experienced cramping.

Alcaraz declared, “I am a very different player than Roland Garros.” I’ve matured significantly since then. It was an event that taught me a lot. I learned from that match, as I had stated prior to the championship. I changed up my routine before the game. Before the contest, I psychologically prepared a little differently. I was able to handle the stress and anxiety more effectively than I could have at Roland Garros.

“Obviously, the two are not the same on grass and clay. However, I’m overjoyed to be able to remain there. didn’t give up or get depressed. I battled through until the final ball. I believe we had fantastic rallies and points on every ball. It was a lengthy match with lengthy sets. I believe it was my mental state that enabled me to remain there for the five sets.

Alcaraz, who defeated World No. 2 in the ATP Masters 1000 event in Madrid last year, currently leads Djokovic 2-1 in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series. Though Alcaraz’s victory on Sunday was his first against 23-time major champion Djokovic at a Slam, he believes the outcome will boost his confidence moving forward.

Prior to this encounter, I believed I couldn’t defeat Novak. That much is clear. Alcaraz remarked, “But after this incredible match, let’s say, I think differently about Novak in the way that I probably will remember this moment in other tournaments, in other Grand Slams.”
